a note from your tour leaders

The greatest joy in traveling is the spirit of exploration. Everyone craves to go off the beaten path, to delve into a people, culture, and history untainted by mass tourism and the consumerism that inevitably accompanies it. The road less traveled is the ultimate dream, but how do you find it?

Over the past many years, my wife Blake and I have had the matchless pleasure of exploring rustic Southern Italy. Using the knowledge and experience gained from years of tours led to Rome, Venice, and Florence, we began exploring the less touristic side of Italy. Places like Matera, Puglia, and Naples quickly revealed a beauty equal to Northern Italy but with a unique vibrance, vitality, and independence that left us wanting more. The further we explored, the more we realized that the dream of visiting an "undiscovered" Italy before the advent of group tours wasn't a fantasy; it was waiting for us in Southern Italy.

This tour is a labor of love, a desire to share with you the unforgettable experiences, places, and people we have met during our travels in Southern Italy. On this one-of-a-kind journey, you'll stay in Stone Age cave dwellings, sail to hidden thermal islands, taste fresh buffalo mozzarella at a 300 year old farm, marvel at ancient Greek temples, make authentic Neapolitan pizza with a local pizzaiolo, and enjoy our acclaimed Sofia Travel lectures and insights into a proud, ancient culture with a history as distinct as the people themselves.

Our goal for this trip is to smooth out the bumps on the road less traveled, allowing you an engaging and inspiring journey that is both comfortable and luxurious. Come join us as we explore Undiscovered Italy together!
